If you’ve already been to Hub & Spoke – Changi Airport’s newest pit stop facility along the Changi Airport Connector for cyclists and joggers, you probably don’t need me to tell you why you should consider hosting your events or celebrations there. But if you haven’t been, let me share with you this best kept secret. Here are six reasons why the picturesque Hub & Spoke located outside Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 is the perfect venue for your celebrations in Singapore.
Psst! For those dreaming of an intimate garden wedding venue in Singapore, there’s a bridal showcase happening on 24 and 25 July 2021 at Hub & Spoke. More details at the end of this article!
1. Garden-like setting amidst lush greenery and exotic blooms
There are many reasons to love Changi Airport, but the one thing we all love is the greenery we find at every turn. Apart from the gardens at Changi’s terminals and the Shiseido Forest Valley in Jewel Changi Airport, the latest addition is Hub & Spoke, a 3,000sqm space set among lush greenery and exotic blooms. Check out the orchid garden, home to the Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim, our national flower, and admire huge trees such as the towering Kigelia africana (commonly known as the African Sausage Tree) and Couroupita guianensis (Cannonball Tree).
The garden theme is timeless and suitable for celebrations of all kinds – wedding receptions, solemnisation ceremonies, birthday parties, sports and corporate events, you name it! There’s a large lawn right in front of their glasshouse café (aptly named the Hub & Spoke Café) and ample open spaces where you can even host yoga events if that’s your thing! Remember to adhere to existing event guidelines as part of the nation’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
2. Picture-perfect backdrops for a memorable moments
What’s a party without Instagrammable backdrops? There are two Changi signature green walls located at each of the entrances to Hub & Spoke which make excellent backdrops for photo-taking. Did you know that they are made up of 3,000 miniature pots – just like a giant jigsaw puzzle! For a more memorable event, you can request for minor customisation to the walls, such as the installation of neon signs against the green wall for added effect. Be sure to whip out that monopod for a selfie or two!
3. Design your own menu for your guests
I always order more than I can stomach whenever I visit the café at Hub & Spoke because there are just so many options to choose from. Long before the Hub & Spoke Café was opened, Roast & Toast (the operator of Hub & Spoke Café) was operating their flagship café in Buangkok Square and that has won the hearts of many. So, you can be rest assured that the food they serve is worth every penny. For events and celebrations, you get to choose items from their seasonal menu or work with their team to design your own depending on whether you’re organising a lunch, high-tea or dinner event.
4. Fur-friends and kids friendly
One thing I constantly struggle with, as a mother, is looking for kids-friendly restaurants and cafés to bring my toddlers. My four-year-old loves Hub & Spoke because of the unrestricted space for her to run around freely, and the staff are friendly with the kids too! For paw-parents, the two large lawns are great spaces for the furry little ones to expend their energy. So, if you’re thinking of hosting an event with kids and fur-friends at an alfresco dining space or simply looking for things to do with your kids in the east, Hub & Spoke Changi Airport pretty much nails it for you.
5. Shower rooms for freshening up
If you’re wondering why there are shower rooms on site, it is because Hub & Spoke is a pitstop for cyclists and joggers using the Changi Airport Connector that links to East Coast Park. After their workout, they can use the shower rooms to freshen up before heading home, or head over to the terminals or Jewel for more R&R. Public rates are S$3 per person per entry and S$5 per person for a two-time entry with use of lockers. For events such as birthday parties and wedding dinners, the uniquely-designed lounge-grade shower rooms looking into Heliconia gardens allow you and your guests to freshen up in style (and for the ladies to touch up their make-up). We won’t stop you if you decide to take a shower too!
6. Ample parking space for you and your guests
The last thing anybody wants is to walk under the hot sun to reach a party that’s a few blocks away from the car park – but not at Hub & Spoke. Less than 50m from the venue is an open-air car park with over 200 lots, more than sufficient for you and your guests. The venue is also connected to the sheltered T2 multi-storey car park 2A. Visit Changi’s website for more information on the parking rates.
